Worship & Work

Deep calls to Deep

At the heart of the 1500 year Benedictine spiritual tradition, "Worship and Work" succinctly describes the daily rhythm and spiritual dynamic of the monks of the Order of Saint Benedict.

A vocation to Worship, the first Work of the Benedictine monks is Worship. The Benedictine Work of Worship; the liturgy of the hours, daily Mass, and the ancient tradition of lectio divina, strives to serve to the spiritual need of the world and Church.

Daily Work among the Benedictine monks articulates and punctuates the spiritual life of the community, giving physical expression to the spiritual fruits of a life of Worship.

Worship inspires Work.
Work reveals Worship.

The Campaign for Saint John's Abbey

Dear friends of Saint John's,

Abbot_John.jpg

Several years ago the entire Saint John’s community celebrated its sesquicentennial. It was a time to look back and rejoice in 150 years of pastoral, educational, and cultural leadership and service to the world. It was a time to thank all those who have been part of this wonderful story. With this capital campaign, Saint John’s wishes to position itself for ever greater service to a rapidly changing student demographic, a dynamically new learning environment, and unique challenges for the Church and society. The abbey campaign is part of the university, HMML, and SOT•Seminary campaign. Though the abbey goal in this campaign is modest compared to the university’s, the funds we wish to raise are crucially important to a healthy future for us. I can’t overstate how crucial your support is to accomplishing the creative and innovative programs that are part of our imagination for the future. We need your help.

Yours in Christ,

John Klassen, OSB
